Abstract

[EN] Forty merino lambs fed with total mixed rations were used to assess the effect of different proportions of hop flowers (0 %, CONTROL; 0.15 %, LUP15; 0.30 %, LUP30; 0.60 %, LUP60), on feed intake, animal performance and the evolution of meat colour under retail display. The animals were slaughtered when they reached 27 kg body weight. Feed intake, average daily gain and feed to gain ratio were similar for all groups (P>0.10). Long periods under simulated retail display (8 days refrigerated at 4 ºC, 12 h illumination) of longissimus lumborum muscle revealed a significant lower of L* and h* of hop fed animals (P<0.05) albeit not linear relationship with hop proportion was observed.
