Doctor by the Universitat de Lleida with the thesis Microbial safety of lettuce foodborne pathogens incidence, their pathogenic potential and biopreservative stratagies 2015. Supervised by Dr. Inmaculada Viñas Almenar, Dr. Maribel Abadias.

Márcia Oliveira obtained a Master’s Degree in Research in Agro-Food Production Systems and an International PhD in Agricultural and Food Science and Technology, funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Education and Science, at University of Lleida. She was granted 2 postdoctoral contracts, one from Catholic University of Portugal and a second one at Teagasc Food Research Centre (Ireland). Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Food Hygiene and Technology Department of University of León, granted with a contract ‘Juan de la Cierva - Incorporación’ funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Throughout her research career, she has always been interested in the area of food safety with a strong focus on the mitigation strategies involving novel and improved antimicrobial agents and approaches to overcome new food safety challenges. At present, her research topics are focused on the investigation of green and sustainable intervention technologies to apply in the agri-food sector which can address consumer demand and industrial needs. She is also lecturer in the Food Science Curriculum of the University of León. The list of lectures is depicted below: - New Food Preservation Technologies.
