Doctor by the Universitat de Lleida with the thesis Microbial safety of lettuce foodborne pathogens incidence, their pathogenic potential and biopreservative stratagies 2015. Supervised by Dr. Inmaculada Viñas Almenar, Dr. Maribel Abadias.

Dr Márcia Oliveira obtained a Master’s Degree in Research in Agro-Food Production Systems and an International PhD in Agricultural and Food Science and Technology, funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Education and Science, at University of Lleida. During her PhD, she had the opportunity to obtain more experience in molecular biology and cell culture, partly by the stays performed at USDA-ARS (California, USA) and at RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and Environment, The Netherlands). She was granted 2 postdoctoral contracts, one from Catholic University of Portugal, in the group of Prof Paula Teixeira, and a second one at Teagasc Food Research Centre (Ireland) in the research group of Prof Brijesh Tiwari. Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Food Hygiene and Technology Department of University of León, granted with a contract ‘Juan de la Cierva - Incorporación’ funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. She is also scientific advisor of two companies (PlasmaAir Int and Soluciones de Agua y Aire, Tayra S.L.) dedicated to design, implementation and monitoring of the Bipolar Ionization technology. While collaborating in 11 National and 6 International projects and with industrial companies, she has established her own research line which focus on food safety especially in the context of food preservation and application of alternative intervention strategies. All these years have provided her a background on food processing technologies and molecular biology techniques as well as she got familiar with risk assessment processes, modelling (Montecarlo simulation) and metagenomics analysis. Since 2018 to date, she has been acting as ad-hoc reviewer of research articles in SCI journals and appointed as guest editor for a special issue in the Applied Sciences journal. Overall, she has published to date 27 articles in international peer reviewed journals (24 in Q1), 8 scientific-technical articles, 1 book chapter and presented several works at various national and international conferences. She is also lecturer in the Food Science Curriculum of the University of León. The list of lectures is depicted below: - Plant-Based Food Industries. Degree in Agricultural Engineering - Fruit and Vegetable Technology. Degree in Food Science and Technology - Food Technology. Veterinary Degree
