Zusammenfassung

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of incorporating broccoli and cauliflower into the diet of lactating sheep on milk production, quality, and animal health. Thirty lactating Assaf ewes were divided into three homogeneous groups. All received the same ad libitum unifeed diet, with the difference being that the broccoli (BRO) and cauliflower (COL) groups were supplemented with 1.5 kg of fresh broccoli and cauliflower, respectively. Daily intake and milk production data were recorded during the sampling period. Blood samples were also collected to analyze the biochemical profile and acid-base status of the animals, and milk samples were analyzed for chemical composition and fatty acid profile. The inclusion of broccoli and cauliflower had no effect on daily unifeed intake or milk production. In the biochemical profile and acid-base status, there was a significant increase in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) values in the COL group and an increase in urea levels in the BRO group. In the fatty acid profile, there was an increase in saturated fatty acids and a decrease in monounsaturated fatty acids in the groups that received broccoli and cauliflower. In conclusion, supplementing lactating sheep with 1.5 kg of broccoli or cauliflower did not impact milk production, animal health, and had a limited effect on milk quality.
