Abstract

Background: Even though swimming is considered by most people a resistance sport, the performance of a good ventral swimming start can contribute up to the 25% of the result in a short race. Goals: This study aimed to design and analyze the utility of the ‘Xploblock SFS’ in the blocks start, in order to demonstrate the existence of possible improvements in the performance of swimmers. Method: Twelve swimmers (six males and six females) made three different ventral swimming starts to exceed 15 meters. One of the ventral swimming starts will be implemented using the Omega OSB11 kick-start while the other two will be carried out with the implementation of ‘Xploblock SFS’ which will have an inclination of 10 and 15º, respectively. In each of the ventral swimming starts, different parametres related to body angulations and performing times have been analysed. Results: It was observed a slight but important improvement of time to consider when passing through the 15 metres using this new tool. Conclusions: In this research is concluded that the implementation of the ‘Xploblock SFS’ on the front of the platform generates temporary advantages over the Omega OSB11, as well as changes in the position adopted by the swimmer at the time of the ventral swimming start. However, further research with larger samples and a competitive level is required.
