Résumé

Assessment of physical activity is a major component in any programming of health-related activities, specially in the elderly. Methods of quantification of energy expenditure, widely vali-dated in sport and high intensity activity are usually employed. Those activities are, however, less fre-quent in old people. Physical activity questionnaires are the only instrument useful for the measurementof activities carried out by the elderly during their everyday life. Questionnaires are simple, no expensi-ve and easy to administer, mainly in large populations. They were until now no well adapted to oldpeople and not adequately validated considering their particularities. Specific questionnaires validatedby reliable techniques and administered by qualified people are today available. Results obtained arereally encouraging and their utility has been demonstrated in different contexts.
