Abstract

Gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) infections are a serious problem in the small ruminant sector worldwide. These infections cause significant economic losses, mainly because they affect the productive and reproductive parameters, which has led to a reductio n in milk and wool production, and growth and fertility. For this reason, effective control would increase the benefits produced by each animal. In small ruminants, the main species are Teladorsagia circumcincta, Haemonchus contortus, and Trichostrongylus spp. In natural conditions, the infections are varied and are provoked by different nematode species. In temperate regions, the most prevalent species are T. circumcincta and Trichostrongylus spp. while in tropical climates H. contortus is the most predominant.
