Abstract

To study the validity of Daget and Poissenet (1971) classic method on forage quality evaluation,a comparison with the feeding value estimated using energy and voluntary intake parametersas described by Andrieu et al. (1981) was made using forage samples obtained frommountain meadows. Forage samples were harvested in four successive dates; three meadowsregrowths were also cut. The forages used were: 10 grasses: Alopecurus pratensis, Anthoxanthumodoratum, Arrhenatherum elatius, Cynosurus cristatus, Dactylis glomerata, Festuca pratensis,Holcus lanatus, Lolium perenne, Poa trivialis y Trisetum flavescens, two legumes Trifoliumpratense y Trifolium repens) and the whole meadows. The main conclusion was that Daget andPoissenet method overestimates forage quality at some harvesting dates.
