Abstract
[EN] %e objective of this study was to determine the effect early feed restriction in merinolambs on meat chemical composition. %us, twenty-four male lambs were assignedrandomly to two groups (n=12 per group) with different suckling regime. %e first groupof lambs (ad libitum, ADL) was kept permanently with the dams whereas the other group(restricted, RES) was separated, and milk restricted (these lambs were allowed to suckfor 15 hours). All of the lambs were weaned with 15 kg of LBW, and then fed the same complete pelleted diet at a restricted level (35 g/kg LBW) during the fattening period untilthey achieved 27 kg of LBW. All the lambs were slaughtered with 27 kg of LBW. Chemicalcomposition of meat samples revealed a higher content of intramuscular fat in the RESgroup, promoted by the accumulation of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. As aconsequence, RES group also showed poorer feed to gain ratio than ADL group. Moderatefeed restriction during lactation seems to allow the animals to be programmed for greaterdeposition of fat in the postweaning phase, enabling a possible strategy to modify thecharacteristics of the meat despite of worsening feed efficiency traits.
