Abstract

Based on the intervention carried out on the Monastery of San Juan Bautista de Corias –in Cangas del Narcea, Asturias– for its recovery as a Parador, this article seeks to reflect on how an action of this type on a monument of outstanding and recognised heritage values permits the preservation of these values while becoming an engine of development for the area in which it is located. In this sense, the intervention criteria applied in the project, led by the architect José María Pérez, also known as Peridis, and some of the different activities managed from the Parador de Corias that have contributed not only to the revitalisation of tourism, but also to the diffusion of the uses and customs in the area and the region, will be also addressed.
