Abstract

Introduction:The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention in order to improve the nursing records in special care units in the University Hospital of Leon. Method: Quasi-experimental study before and after study in Coronary Unit, Dialysis, Premature, ICU and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. We analyzed 1011 randomly pulled records during 12 months of study. Results: We did no find differences between the study groups regarding sociodemographic characteristics of the records. Appropriate language significantly increased (p <0.001) from 44.6% pre-intervention group to 74.20% in the post. The format "Problem-Activity-resolution" as a way to relate the events varied from 21.50% to 56.80%. Due to the educational intervention, significantly increased registration of basic needs such as hygiene, skin care, mobility and breathing. The NANDA nursing diagnosis were not referenced as well as clothing needs, beliefs, conduct, leisure, learning, probably due to other records registered. Conclusions: From the baseline the nursing records met one of its main purposes that is keeping the continuity of care. After the educational intervention significantly improved results in areas such as language and needs analysis.
