Abstract

Most of the videogames that sell best worldwide at present tend to encourage values that are contrary to those that education attempts to inculcate. These include violence as a strategy when faced with conflict, competitiveness and winning as unquestioned goals or disrespect towards people who are weaker or different. In this way socialization is firmly set within a patriarchal culture, a key gender feature that explains a great deal of the cultural and structural violence present in society. Schools cannot remain passive in the presence of this model of socialization. They must provide tools and strategies so that their pupils will be able to understand and analyze with a critical eye these powerful “toys”.
