Resumo

In León, Spain, the foundling house, dependent on the cathedral chapter, and the hospice, founded by Bishop Cuadrillero, merged in the early years of the 19th century. The place chosen to settle the children was this second one, whose building had been built expressly to fulfill that function. In both centers, mortality was very high, but there were children who managed to reach the age to become independent and socially inserted.
