Laburpena

A PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) is a peripherally inserted central catheter consisting of a long, flexible, thin of silicone or polyurethane tube that is placed through the veins of the arm (basilic/cephalic), above the ante-ulnar fossa. In this article we describe the procedure for insertion of a PICC in an Interventional Vascular Radiology Unit using an ultrasound-guided technique and radiological verification. The procedure described includes the indications, material and human resources required, the description of the technique as well as the care associated with the procedure and maintenance of the PICCs.
