Abstract

The cryosphere provides useful indicators for the study of climate change and largely determines thedistribution and magnitude of the most active geomorphic processes associated with snow and ice. There have been tracking tasks of the ground thermal regime in several favourable locations to the formation of frozen ground, as endokarstic thermal conditions of ice caves as Peña Castil, Verónica andAltaiz, glaciers of Jou Negro and Jou Trasllambrión survey, the debris cones of La Vueltona and massmovements on the slopes of the Puertos de Áliva. The methodology and analysis tools have been diverse. Highlights include the analysis of thermal microsensors buried in the ground and the register ofinternal thermal data by thermographic camera in ice caves; glaciers survey, debris talus affected bygelifraction and mass movements through geomatic and topographical tools such as GPS-RTK and Terrestrial Laser Scanner. All this has been accompanied by the development of detailed geomorphologicalmapping. There are several findings that suggest that in Picos de Europa the snow processes are dominants, while the frozen ground processes are housed in topoclimatic favourable areas.
