Abstract
This work describes lesions compatibles with the respiratory form of Maedi-Visna in 20 sheeps between 3,5 and 4 month old, belonging to an Assaf flock, with a seropositive prevalence higher than 90%. An interstitial pneumonia was observed in the apical and the diaphragmatic lobes, with macrophages and some lymphocytes, with a diffuse o multifocal distribution, and also characterized with some lymphoid aggregates and follicles of different intensity depending on the animal. The presence of Maedi-Visna virus in the lesions was confirmed in 5 lambs by immunohistochemistry and by PCR. Seven of 20 lambs were seropositive. These features are important related with the presence of severe lesions and infection by Maedi-Visna virus in very young lambs.
