Abstract

Tutoring has become a key element in the teaching and learning process in the context of the new frameworkof higher education. Different methods have been put into practice, from traditional ones to more innovative monitoringsystems, which are aimed to closely follow the learning process of students enrolled in the new degrees, readjusted toconform to European requirements.Tutorial actions in the first year of the Degree in English Studies at the University of Murcia integrate severalmodalities, including electronic tutoring via the University’s virtual platform (SUMA), ECTS tutoring, the tutoring of all first-year students by the teaching staff of the Department of English and the Plan de Acción Tutorial (TutorialAction Plan). In our paper, we describe the organisation of this complex scheme and comment on the possibleadvantages and disadvantages stemming from its introduction; the results obtained from a survey among students fromthe first year of the Degree (Appendix 1) are discussed for the purpose.
