Resumen

Mexico is the American country that produces more goat milk; nevertheless there is no information available about its goat milk quality. This study intends to be a departure point in the evaluation of the quality of the goat milk and, particularly, was design to determine the number of somatic. In goats of first to seventh lactation, clinically healthy, handled in intensive system and with an average period of lactation of 318 days, the daily average production was of 3.7 L, and the arithmetic mean of somatic cells by mL was 493 000 cells/ml. The results were analyzed using mixed models for repeated measurements that included the following factors: goat, farm, the random effect of the goat within each farm, the number of lactation and the month in which the sampling was made.
