Scrapie positive samples coming from 43 animals belonging to a herd placed in the region of Castilla y León were genotiped and sequenced with two main targets, to describe the genotypes most frequent of the PRNP gen in relation to the codons 136, 154 and 171 in these scrapie affected animals, and to try to find new polymorphisms in the coding region (ORF) of the gen PRNP which codifies for the prionic protein (PrP). With this target, the ORF was completely sequenced (771 bp) showing a polymorphism at codon 143 (H143R) and two silent polymorphisms at codons 231 and 237. The studied animals presented the following genotypes, ARQ/ARQ, ARQ/ARH, ARH/ARH and VRQ/ARQ, the last two described in only one animal of our population.
