Abstract

After dry therapy of 100 half-udders (50 Assaf ewes) with an antibiotic combination based on 100 mg of penethamate hydriodide, 280 mg of benethamine penicillin and 100 mg of framycetin sulphate (Mamyzin® Secado, Boehringer Ingelheim España S.A.), at dose of 1 syringe per teat, the milk antibiotic depletion was studied during the first 7 milkings postpartum by two screening tests for b-lactamic and aminoglycosides detection (Rosa® and Blue Yellow® Charm, Charm Sciences, Inc. Lawrence, Massachussets, USA). Eleven glands (11.0% of the glands) corresponding to 9 ewes (18.0% of the ewes) were involved in the postpartum antibiotic depletion. According to screening test used, between 91% (Rosa Charm: 10/11) and 100% (Blue Yellow: 6/6) of positive results, and 91.7% (Blue Yellow: 11/12) of doubtful results were within the first 3 milkings postpartum (at 6, 18 and 30 h postpartum). The percentage of positive and doubtful results was very low at 42 h, and residues were no detected over 54 h postpartum.
