Abstract

We have evaluated the level of serum copper in several sheep flocks located in the bank of the Esla river. Two blood samples were taken, in spring and autumn, from all the different age-groups of the flock. Analysis was made by means of ICP technique in the Laboratory of Instrumental Technologies (LTI) of the University of León. The seric copper oscillated among the values from 9,0 to 1,29 μg/ml, with lower levels in those sheep with greater production. Many of these animals would be able to be considered lacking in this element. The values obtained in autumn are slightly lower to them found in spring.
