Abstract

Vaccination against paratuberculosis has been performed in threegroups of animals (1,5 month-old, 5 month-old and adults) from adairy goat flock. The objective was to assess the peripheral immuneresponse related to vaccination, its effect on the animal losses and themeasurement of the IFN-γ response against different antigens from M.bovis in vaccinated animals. Vaccination induced an intense cellularperipheral immune response that reached the highest level at 6 mpv. Itwas higher in the 5-month-old group than in the rest, and showed thelowest values in the adult group. Although vaccinated animals reactedagainst bovine PPD and PC-HP M. bovis antigens, the response was moreintense to avian PPD or johnin; the latter showed the highest values. Noreaction was detected against PC-ED antigen, suggesting its usefulness inthe differentiation of Map vaccinated and tuberculosis-infected animals. The percentage of losses was lower in vaccinated groups, regardless theage. This fact would indicate that paratuberculosis vaccination couldhave a general beneficial effect.
