The mammary gland is one of the target organs of the infection byMaedi-Visna virus in sheep. However, minimal lesions have not beenconsidered. Forty two infected sheep were studied and mammary glandlesions were found in 32 sheep showing only minimal lesions 14 ofthem. The rest of the sheep showed moderate to severe lesions in themammary gland. All of them (32) showed the presence of the virus inthe mammary tissue. The minimal lesions described were not previouslyconsidered which would imply and increase the animals with mammarylesions and infection. Moreover, the study into the loss parenchyma inany lesion of the mammary glands should be studied and related withmilk production.
