Abstract

Vaccination against paratuberculosis has been considered as an efficient method for controlling thisdisease, although disagreements among the different experiments carried out have been reported, regarding theirbenefits or procedures. In this study, the effects of the vaccination have been assessed along three years, in adairy flock of approximately 400 adult Assaf sheep, where the 70% of the animals was vaccinated with acommercial killed vaccine. The remaining 30% was kept as unvaccinated control. Vaccination induced a strongcellular and humoral peripheral responses that persisted until the end of the study. Percentages of both culledanimals and severe lesions of paratuberculosis decreased in the vaccinated animals in comparison with thecontrol group.
