Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the effect on fertility of the depth of semen deposition in transvaginalartificial insemination using cooled semen in goats Alpine (A) and Murciano-Granadinas (MG) andfrozen semen in Alpine goats. 3514 inseminations were performed with cooled (5 ºC) semen and 816with frozen semen. The factors analyzed were: breed, depth of deposition of semen and type of semen. The depth of deposition was measured in centimeters and classified into four groups, Group 0 (<0.5cm), Group 1 (> 0.5 <1.5 cm), Group 2 (> 1.5 <2.5 cm) Group 3 (intrauterine). The depth of semen depositionwas always the maximum penetration allowed each cervix. Group were more frequent depositionGroups 0 and 1 (35.43% vs 42.38%).No significant differences were found for the breed regarding the depths o deposition. The fertility resultswere affected by the depth, especially with frozen semen. The fertility for AI with frozen semenwere 49.26%, 59.26%, 67.88% and 61.85% for groups 0, 1, 2 and 3 respectively, and with frozen semen:26.63%, 52 , 32%, 73.16% and 73.33% respectively
