The aim of this study is to detect the previous deficiencies that students may have in the subject of Physics, when they access at the University during the first semester in the first year. The research has been carried out with students from Engineering Schools, in the field of Physics. The "Force Conccept Inventory" test, developed by Hestenes, has been used. This test was done by the students upon arrival at the University (pre-test) and it was repeated again by the same students at the end of the course. The results of the tests have been compared with the marks at the end of the course. It can be observed that the pass rate is higher among the students who passed the pre-test and the posttest than in the other group of students. This means that successful students in the pre and post test have less wrong preconcepts, and consecuently they obtain better marks.
