Abstract

Zoonoses are diseases that are transmitted naturally between vertebrate animals and man. This type of process, which in recent years has been characterized by its emergence, many times as new processes, is becoming a global health problem, especially with regard to zoonoses caused by viruses and in particular viruses with RNA. A good proof of this is the current COVID-19 pandemic produced by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. In the article, a review is made of the interest of emerging zoonoses and some reemerging ones from the health, social and economic point of view. Regarding the new “One Health” doctrine that emerged at the beginning of the 21st century, as a consequence of the emergence of these processes, its antecedents are discussed, the concept in light of the benefits derived from its application and some issues related to its future projection.
