Abstract

The present situation for the "Montaña Leonesa" is best portrayed by its low human and animal populations that put its preservation at risk. Moreover, many farmers have to take their herds to lower áreas during the winters, looking for better supplies of nutrients and housing adequate for large herds. The present study analyzes the posibility of increasing the amount and quality of the winter food reserve from permanent meadows by use of different combinations of PK fertilizers formulae and crop management systems. It was concluded that several of the combinations studied could allow for higher numbers of animáis per farm, and would reduce social and economical costs incurred by seasonal migration
