Abstract
The European Higher Education Space (EHES) challenges universities to transform their training offer so that they may open it to new institutional and social settings. In this context, teaching competences like the capacities to innovate, to integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), to teach and evaluate competences and to be guiding experts, have a strong influence on university education when envisaging European convergence. As the development of such teaching competences is one of the backbones to strengthen university as an institution, four possible typical settings are proposed for future universities: a traditional university with no changes at all, a university with national or local strategies, a university traditional but adapted and a university with global strategies
