Zusammenfassung

Field reflectance spectroscopy and petrographic analysis were used to determine the mineralogical composition of the so called Marrón Imperial ornamental rock, formed by Cenomanian massive dolostones located in the Sierra de la Magdalena, in the Jumilla-Yecla transversal mountains (West of Yecla). The field and petrographic study show that these dolostones have a breccia appearance due to dolomitization processes occurred after the rock formation. The dolostones are crossed by white calcite veins with yellowish and porous areas characterized by the presence of organic matter and sulfides provoking recog- nizable textural changes in visu observations. For the spectral analysis, 25 measures were sampled in the field and the results support the petrographic observations, allowing the differentiation of three spectral groups. These groups are characterized by the presence of calcite with iron oxides, dolomite with iron oxides and dolomite with scarce mineral impurities, showing their spatial distribution in the quarry front and the rock evaluation for its potentially ornamental use.
