Abstract

The aim of this work was to set up a system to zoning grape harvest based on a Geographic Information System using gvSIG and multi-criteria evaluation. The most important variables of interest were those concerning both the quality and amount of the harvested grapes. Methodological steps were: data collection, creation of geo-referenced database, spatial analysis and zoning. The vineyards were zoning by three different criteria: grape juice quality, amount of grapes harvested and both criteria. Each zone into the vineyard was classified by three different levels (high, intermediate or low) depending on the quality and quantity of grape juice. Using the zoning-maps, winemaker would blend grapes to offsetting any imbalances in quality or quantity in order to obtain the different types of wine demanded by the customers of the winery.
