Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary results of a project aimed at establishing a system of geoindicators to manage the geological heritage in Spanish National Parks. The results presented here are summarized in two supplementary actions. The first one is an inventory of geological sites (LIG) in the Picos de Europa National Park. Some criteria such as their representativeness in the geological context of the park and their inclusion in different figures of protection of the natural heritage have been followed for selection of the geological sites. The second action is the application to the LIG of four complementary forms: 1) general, geological and patrimonial information sheet, 2) state indicators sheet, 3) pressure indicators sheet, and 4) response indicators sheet. In the first three, the management needs of each LIG are defined, while the fourth sheet is is allocated to the evaluation of the measures of the National Park to improve the use and conservation of its geological heritage
