Resumen

Doubts about copyright and its impact on the possibilities of using scientific articles or academic dissertations and theses have grown enormously. In addition, as several studies show, faculty and students do not commonly have the minimum knowledge to answer these questions, which not only causes infringements of rights but also a refusal to participate in open science activities as they are fearful of legal problems. In this scenario, some university libraries are assuming a new role by training, supporting, and advising their users in this area and created specific units or sections for this pur-pose: the copyright and/or scholarly communication offices. This paper analyzes the possibilities for university libraries to contribute to the proper development of open science by supporting and advi-sing their users on copyright and scholarly communication issues.
