Zusammenfassung

In recent years, the elderly population has experienced notable growth, as well as an improvement in their quality of life, presenting greater physical activity and functional independence. Likewise, an increase in traumatic pathology has been observed in this age group, with Head Trauma (TBI) being the most frequent. It must be taken into account that the elderly that suffers trauma presents special characteristics when it comes to its assessment and management. On the other hand, the importance of TBI lies not only in its mortality, but also in the important consequences it causes, with great personal, social and economic implications. However, the factors related to a worse functional prognosis are not exactly known in this population. The objective of this study is to know the prognostic factors associated with higher mortality, as well as the functional prognosis, during the stay in an Intensive Care Unit of those people aged 65 or older who are admitted with a diagnosis of TBI. For this, a retrospective descriptive study was carried out on the population of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria during the years 1991 to 2016, analyzing variables related to the initial assessment and certain parameters during the stay in this Unit.
