In this paper, we propose the contributions that could be made from action research into the field of cooperative learning. We believe that the main challenge of innovation in education is moving from classroom practices to transform schools and, therefore, the whole community. This transformation can be done in both fields, as they are complementary; while cooperation can change the way of learning, action research creates new opportunities to interact and collaborate with teachers. We discuss the advantages of using action research for change in three points: (a) changes in the practices of the school, as it allows more classrooms innovate learning from each other colleagues; (b) allows collaborative work on models to learn from practice and promote dialogue with peers; (c) generates a training model in which teachers are trained from their own reality and needs.
