The best implement to check the status of machinery and detect symptoms that make fails when the fails are in a nascent state is predictive maintenance. Its progress has been spectacular; Nowadays there are a variety of techniques and equipment allowing diagnostic machines in service economically prohibitive before. The techniques based on vibration analysis have had a significant progress and development as a diagnostic implement for rotating machinery, this does not happen in alternative machinery. In this last area, diagnosis by vibrations has not had equal success. The Applied Acoustics Laboratory of the University of León has done some research work on a total of 100 semihermetic compressors, by implementing predictive maintenance techniques used in rotating machinery, with the intention of making a first approach in identifying the main vibrating sources through spectral analysis.
