Abstract

This is a study of the behavior, preferences and level of satisfaction of the academic communities of theUniversities of Coimbra, Porto and Leon in relation to the use of electronic journals. With this aim, data andopinions from faculty undertaking research in differents fields of knowledge were gathered during surveyscarried out in 2012. Frequent, intense use was noted, this being fundamentally directed towards researchtasks. The average number of articles consulted per year was considerable, with clear differences beingvisible between the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Life and Health Sciences. The number ofjournal titles consulted regularly by faculty was found to be an average of almost ten, results that exceedthe threshold found in other works.
