Abstract

Early school leaving is a topic of concern to most countries around the world. This concern has its important consequences both for the quality of life of the person and for the economic growth of the country .The objective of this paper is to describe the variables that influence the student who leaves school without obtaining compulsory education degree. An advanced search was undertaken in various international databases: ERIC, SCOPUS and WEB OF SCIENCE. The key words that were included were: review, early school leaving, school dropout, completion, dropping out, retention, repetition, academic failure, out of school, student attrition, truancy, secondary education and school. A total of 124 variables that influence early school leaving were found. It is concluded that, the realization of global diagnostics will be fundamental to know in depth the causes of the student dropout.
