Abstract

The concept of dissection within the sphere of the Anatomy has meant since its inception a decisive fact for the evolution of this scientific discipline. In the Middle Ages there was an inflection point that established its subsequent improvement, taking place during the Renaissance. It is necessary to verify two clearly differentiated stages in terms of the development of anatomical dissections, since at first they had a sporadic nature and, then, they progressed towards their systematization favoring the research and the theoretical-practical knowledge. In the Modern Age its use was generalized until reaching the Contemporary Age, whose effect becomes evident daily due to its irrefutable diagnostic usefulness. In this oral communication we expect to carry out a brief study of anatomical dissections during the Middle Ages, focusing our attention on advances occurred in Europe, especially in Italy and France
