Abstract

In this article we try to refl ect on the historical nature and the role of the House of Austria in the panegyrical plays written by Alonso de Castillo Solórzano (La victoria de Norlingen y el Infante en Alemania) and the brothers Juan and Antonio Coello (Los dos Fernandos de Austria), on the occasion of the Infante-cardinal Ferdinand of Austria’s victory in Nördlingen, under the light of contemporary accounts of events and Calderón’s “auto,” El primer blasón de Austria.
