Resum

Fernando Montesinos wrote his work entitled Ophir de España in the mid-seventeenth century. The essential motive of it was to link the biblical Ophir with America. In order to do this, he resorted to a whole series of works and authors on which to base his theory. Among them the Greco-Roman authors, pagans, Christians and including false chronicones. In the first place, it emphasizes above all the Christian authors of the first centuries, including Flavio Dextro and his attributed work. Among the classics does not emphasize any author, not even Pliny, widely used for American descriptions of the time.
