Abstract
Adaptation represents a main topic in sports. lt has been related to both functional and/or structural transformations, with a temporary or permanent character depending on its time frame, as a consequence of training. Moreover, there is a direct relation to Overtraining, because an importan! part of its ethiology is associated with the load-recovery relationship during the adaptation process. Adaptation issues such as background information, characteristics, types, phases and events are reported in this article. After that, the stages of the adaptation mechanism are described as well as the impact on experimented and non-experimented athletes, depending on the separated or concentrated management of the load administration. Finally, Overtraining is considered taking into account issues, conceptual raisings and characteristics in relation to the adaptation process and the supercompensation cycle.
