Abstract

The installation of high voltage gas discharge lamps is becoming íncreasíngly common. They have ceased to be confined almost exclusively to shop fronts and billboards and can now be found almost anywhere. This entaíls an additíonal risk in those places where they are installed and makes a strícfet control ofsuch installations necessary. In spíte of the proliferatíon of this type ofinstallation, the current low voltage e/eetricity regulations (REBT) do not contain any regu/ation specific to them, or even a partial reference, the nearest it comes is in the ITC BT 44, where it makes mentíon, in its point 5, of iIIumínated signs with this type offamp, and refers us to #he UNE-EN 50.107. Gíven the vo/tages used in this type ofí/lu· mination, they fall outside the scope of the REBT, rather, it would seem that they are the domain of high voltage regulations, however this type ofinstallation is not a hígh voltage power fine, and therefore also falls outside the scope of#he current high voltage overhead power fine regulations (RLEAT). Some autonomous regions have deve/oped their own re/e· vant territorial regulatíons.
