Abstract

The medieval world, as well as its humanistic tendencies, was projected on the American territories. Chronicles and other writings reflected the old European tradition, both in form and in contents. Monsters, mermaids, millenarianisms, and other phenomena, including those of Biblical character, managed to persist in the minds of the Spaniards who traveled to the New World.
