Résumé
The distribution of space in schools is part of their hidden curriculum and references to gender in its distribution are a proof of it. The article refers to the notion of space in education from multidisciplinary notions: etymologic, geographic, philosophical and educational ones. Its historical link to possession, conquest and domination brings about phylogenetic and ontogenetic elements to determine its use and traditions related to gender in school. The dimension of school as a maze translates into limitations for women. The different vision of space by men and women has an evolutionary origin; the division of gender roles is the result of the division within the productive system. Men have occupied outside spaces and have relegated women to inside spaces. It is possible to see space from a perspective different from that of the own gender. Men and women should share the same vision of space the opposite sex has to embrace a more open and dynamic environment. In education men have occupied power institutional spaces in schools.
