Abstract

This study constitutes a selective bibliographic revision of the conceptual and typological data so far collected in connection with migration. The concept of migration is related to the various time-space ambiguities inherent in the study of migratory processes. On the other hand, the phenomenon seems to be affected by polarization. This study briefly describes neomarxist and funcionalist ideologies, among others, which seems to offer the most realistic explanation of the situation. The proposed typology uses five classifying criteria; the duration of the time spent abroad, the distance travelled, reasons for emigration, the degree of liberty in the decision to migrate and the importance of profession in migration.
