Abstract

In this article we have analyzed the textile consumption in La Bañeza and Astorga. These areas were connected to the main routes linking Galicia and Castile from 1700 until 1860. We have observed an increase in textile consumption in peasant and artisan families, especially since the 1830s and 1840s, for clothing and house linen rather than bed linen. At the same time, new textile materials such as corduroy and cotton and new fashions appeared in larger towns.
