Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the necessity to focus on the non-verbal aspects of voice when teaching oral skills. Having briefly discussed what the features and functions of the so called non-verbal vocal or paraverbal features are, the following will be attempted: 1) to show their validity in linguistic study, as without this they cannot be accepted as a valid objective in teaching; 2) to show their importance in didactic interaction taking as a reference the initial analysis of an oral interaction corpus collected in a preschool classroom which is currently being compiled in the Spanish Department of the University of León and 3) to prove that the inclusion of these non-verbal aspects implies a more coherent application ot the principies established by the experts in relation to teaching of oral skills.
