Abstract
The points of departure of this paper are the concepts of endocentric and exocentric construction formulated by Bloomfield and their subsequent adaptation to syntactic frames different from that in which they arose. This means disagreement when adscribing certain categories to one or another general type of construction. An example of this are the divergent treatments of the prepositional phrases and noun phrases. Focusing on these two cases we will show that the aforesaid divergences stem from different notions of head, as in its identification distributional criteria have been substituted by others.
