Abstract
We have tried in this article to stress the significant contribution of Poe and Daly to the development of the detective novel as well as making a review of some of the defenders and defamers of the genre. We have also wanted to pay homage to a writer who has been forgotten through the ages but who must be considered the first creator of the conventions of the American hard-boiled detective novel.
